Business Jobs Search Tips

With many business jobs available, it's natural to think that finding a job will be easy. You will have competition for the best jobs, however. These extra tips will help you be more successful in your job search.

Bring your resume into the digital age. Most companies now use their websites and email during the hiring process, so it is a good idea to create a digital resume. Emailing a resume is simple enough - just use a widely-compatible word-processing program to create your resume, and then attach it with your email program. Some companies will ask you to upload your resume to their website, and they will usually specify the format. So, when creating your master resume, don't use any strange or unique formatting that will not easily transfer across computer systems. Try emailing your resume to a friend as a test run, and ask if they will also proofread it for you. Always get another pair of eyes to read over your resume before sending it out.

Guard your online reputation. Recent studies show that company executives often use the web to check up on potential employees. If you're afraid of what might pop up when potential employers Google you, take some time to clean up your online reputation. One of the best ways to do this is to change the privacy settings on your personal social networking pages so that they can only be accessed by friends and family. Not everyone needs to know your personal business, especially when you're looking for a job.

Be safe when searching online. Before posting your resume and giving out all kinds of personal information to a job search engine, make sure the website is legit and honest. Never provide your social security number, your address, or any other important details over the web - unless the website is secure. Secure websites will say "https" in the address bar - the "s" stands for secure. And don't EVER pay someone to give you a job, unless it's a legit recruitment service. Many well-intentioned job hunters get scammed this way.
